Thread rolling is a process that uses tooling dies and constant high pressure hydraulic force to compress threads into a steel rod. Transferring die geometry to a rod, or bar, is the result of a physical property called anisotrophy (an-eye-so-trophy). While cutting threads make a rod weaker and more vulnerable to failure, rolling changes its form through compression, making it stronger.
